Losing weight is hard! In fact, it’s so tough that 40 million Americans admitted they’d be willing to give up all social media just to lose ten or more pounds.

Don’t go running to deactivate your social accounts just yet. Instead, learn about the best evening exercise for weight loss and other tips to lose weight and keep it off.

Walking Is the Best Evening Exercise for Weight Loss!

No matter who you are, you can lose weight by making an effort to walk more! Check out this chart to see how many calories you burn per hour while walking, depending on your weight and how fast you walk.

The reason we think walking is one of the best evening exercises for weight loss is that it’s accessible to every single person. It’s easy to start, and you can’t do it wrong. Since we’re in Troy, Michigan, we know it’s impossible to get outside in the cold every night to take a walk.

Try these tips to incorporate more walking into your daily routine:

  • Walk while chatting on the phone
  • Find a walking buddy and go to your local mall
  • Park in the back of parking lots
  • Get a standing desk and a treadmill that fits underneath
  • Commit to walking for half your lunch break (around the office or house)

If you have a job where you’re already walking a ton and still struggling to lose weight, it may be time to consider personal training.

More of The Best Evening Exercises for Weight Loss

Not everyone has the time to walk as much as they need to every night. Others can get bored with just walking and want a little more of a challenge. Try these other great evening exercises for weight loss.

Jump Rope

It’s not just for kids! This is one of the best whole-body exercises to help increase muscle strength, boost your metabolism and quickly burn calories on those busy evenings.

By jumping a robe for 30 minutes, you’ll get a full cardio workout that increases your heart rate to a beat that will burn calories. When doing so, make sure you’re on a flat surface without anything around you. Do a couple of test runs with the jump rope before you go full into it, so you don’t accidentally hit anything.

Then, go for at least thirty minutes for a sweaty workout you’ll appreciate the next day.

Squats

These muscle-strengthening exercises also work great at helping you burn calories to lose weight. Squats burn calories and help prevent fat from building up in the lower part of your body.

As a beginner, try to finish three sets of 12 to 15 squats each day until they become easy. Then, keep increasing the number of squats in each set and do more sets.

To squat properly, make sure you keep your back straight and focus on your glutes and legs as you lower yourself down. Do them slowly and controlled while flexing your abs to stay in the right position.

Yoga

One of the best exercises to reduce stress and lose weight is yoga. There are many yoga poses you can try out to lose weight, and it’s not as tough as you may think.

Some of the yoga poses you can try are the warrior pose, triangle pose, or plank pose. If you’re serious about starting yoga, look online for the different poses you can do to get started.

Planks

Great for building your core, planks target most of the major muscle groups in your body. By engaging your core, arms, back, chest, and hips, you’ll start to feel these effects in seconds.

Try to hold your plank for at least a minute multiple times daily. Set a timer, so you don’t cheat yourself out on a great workout.

If they’re too hard to complete, instead of resting on your elbows in the plank position, pop up on your hands. It reduces the effectiveness of the workout, but after some time, you’ll be able to perform them like a pro.

Why Should I Workout in the Evening?

Working out in the evening helps you unwind and eliminate the extra energy and stress you have left over at the end of the day. If you think you’ll be too tired to work out after a long day, think again. You can actually go up to 20% longer when you exercise in the evening compared to in the morning.

Exercising in the evening will also help you sleep better at night. Just be sure to give yourself a little bit of time after your exercise before attempting to sleep. Plus, when you wake up the next morning after a deep sleep, you’ll feel more ready to take on the day ahead of you.
